The process surrounding the selection of CIGRE articles

The most important meeting place for reporting new knowledge and new projects is the Session in Paris, which is organized every two years. Having a CIGRE article accepted has a high status in the industry in Norway as well as internationally.

The work is organized in 16 Study committee, each with a number of working groups under it. These committees prepare topics that are to be covered at the conference (these are called “preferential subjects” and announced in “call for paper” at www.cigre.org).

The selection process of reports to be presented here is as follows (the process is developing with somewhat less national control than previously):

  • An open invitation goes out, where potential authors from all over the world are encouraged to submit report proposals that address a limited number of topics (usually 3) within each of them 16 The study committees' work area.
  • Suggestion, i abstracts form, sent The Norwegian Committee, which goes through and sifts out those who can go on to Paris for final approval. This is done for quality assurance and to ensure that the proposals meet the call for proposals.
  • An international panel then approves the abstracts for further development into a full report within each Study Committee.
  • The completed report is sent to the Norwegian Committee for Quality Assurance and a round of updates, before the report is submitted to Cigre centrally for review in the study committees.
  • Reports can be rejected in the study committees based on academic quality, limitations in the total number of reports on various topics, as well as an overall assessment.
  • All reports are made available to participants at the session in Paris with an ISBN number. In addition, the reports are made available on the internet via e-CIGRE.
  • The reports are presented and discussed at the "Poster Session" during the Session.
  • General discussion at the individual study committee meetings is based on questions raised about the selected subjects for the study committee.
